DP-750 is a new exam for a new certification, Microsoft Certified: Azure Databricks Data Engineer Associate, and Microsoft's pages do not describe it as a replacement for any other exam. The Azure Data Engineer Associate certification, earned with Exam DP-203, retired on Mar 31, 2025, along with its renewal assessment (DP-203 certification page). DP-203 asked for proficiency with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Stream Analytics, Azure Event Hubs, Azure Data Lake Storage and Azure Databricks; DP-750 centers on Azure Databricks, with Unity Catalog, Lakeflow pipelines and jobs, Declarative Automation Bundles, and the Azure services a Databricks engineer connects to: Microsoft Entra, Azure Key Vault, Azure Event Hubs, Azure Data Factory and Azure Monitor (Microsoft's DP-750 study guide).
DP-750 gives you 120 minutes, is proctored, and Microsoft says you may have interactive components to complete (certification page). Microsoft does not publish the question count or which exams contain labs; the exam's introduction screen gives the number of questions, case studies and labs, and each lab has 7-15 tasks (Microsoft exam FAQ). Most Microsoft Certification exams have 40-60 questions, and 120 minutes is the exam time Microsoft lists for associate and expert role-based exams that may contain labs. Microsoft Learn can be opened in a split screen during associate and expert exams, except Q&A, practice assessments and your profile, and no extra time is added (Exam duration and exam experience).
DP-750 is no longer labeled beta: its certification page shows no beta label and lists ten exam languages, a 120-minute duration and a Last Updated date of Oct 19, 2026 (certification page). Microsoft announced the certification and the exam, in beta, on Mar 10, 2026, and said general availability was planned for early May 2026 (Microsoft announcement). Microsoft's pages do not give the date the exam went live.
Three PDFs, 110 pages: the study guide and two practice exams.
The DP-750 skills outline names these platform pieces. Databricks has renamed several of them: where the outline uses an older name, the current name follows in parentheses, and where it already uses the current name, the former name follows.
