AI-200 is the exam Microsoft lists as the replacement for AZ-204: the Azure Developer Associate certification (Exam AZ-204) retired on Jul 31, 2026, and Microsoft names the Azure AI Cloud Developer Associate certification (Exam AI-200) in its place (Microsoft Tech Community post). AZ-204 surveyed the Azure developer platform in five domains, including Blob Storage, API Management, Event Hubs and Microsoft Entra authentication (Microsoft's AZ-204 study guide). The AI-200 outline keeps containers, Functions, Service Bus, Event Grid, Key Vault and App Configuration, drops those four areas, and gives its largest share, 30-35%, to three data services used for AI workloads: Cosmos DB for NoSQL with vector search, Azure Database for PostgreSQL with pgvector, and Azure Managed Redis. Monitoring moves to OpenTelemetry SDKs and KQL (Microsoft's AI-200 study guide).
AI-200's certification page says only that you "may have interactive components to complete as part of this exam" and that you have 120 minutes (certification page). Microsoft does not publish which exams contain labs, because labs can be removed at any time; the overview pages at the start of the exam say whether labs are included. The 120-minute duration matches Microsoft's figure for associate exams that may contain labs, which carry 140 minutes of seat time, and the exam sandbox at aka.ms/examdemo lets you try the question types you may see, in the exam interface (exam duration and experience).
Yes, AI-200 is an associate exam, and Microsoft Learn is available during associate and expert exams: it opens in a split screen beside the question, with everything in the learn.microsoft.com domain except Q&A, Practice Assessments and your profile. No extra time is added and the timer keeps running, so it suits a few look-ups rather than every question (exam duration and experience).
Three PDFs, 102 pages: the study guide and two practice exams.
The AI-200 skills outline names the services and tools below across its four domains. Python is the only programming language the audience profile names.
