Microsoft's free pages set out what the AB-900 exam covers. The AB-900 bundle adds a 52-page study guide that covers every exam domain, and two practice exams with 100 original questions, every answer explained. When Microsoft revises the exam, a new edition follows if the changes warrant it, included while your access lasts. Take Microsoft's AB-900 practice assessment as well; none of the bundle's questions come from it.
Updates to the AB-900 bundle arrive as new editions. Every bundle includes 6 months of access: download the PDFs, and any new editions, until 6 months after your purchase date. AB-900 has three domains: core features and objects of Microsoft 365 services (30-35%), data protection and governance for Microsoft 365 and Copilot (35-40%), and basic administrative tasks for Copilot and agents (25-30%), per Microsoft's AB-900 study guide. MS-900 had four: cloud concepts (5-10%), Microsoft 365 apps and services (45-50%), security, compliance, privacy and trust (25-30%), and pricing, licensing and support (10-15%), per Microsoft's MS-900 study guide, which says MS-900 retired on Mar 31, 2026. Microsoft announced that retirement in an August 2025 post that also announced a new Fundamentals certification for core Microsoft 365 services, Copilot and agents, without naming it. Microsoft's AB-900 pages do not mention MS-900, and the retired exams list names no replacement.
AB-900's certification page says the exam is proctored and that "you may have interactive components to complete as part of this exam" (certification page). Microsoft does not identify an exam's question types before the exam. Its exam experience page shows samples of question types you might see on a Microsoft exam, such as drag and drop, hot area and multiple choice, mentions labs in its duration table only for associate and expert role-based exams, and says Microsoft Learn is not available during Fundamentals exams.
AB-900 gives you 45 minutes (certification page). Microsoft publishes no question count for AB-900. Its exam experience page says most Microsoft Certification exams have 40-60 questions, that the number varies by exam, and that seat time for Fundamentals exams is 65 minutes. A scaled score of 700 on a 1-1,000 scale passes, some questions may be unscored, and there is no penalty for guessing (exam scoring page).
Three PDFs, 92 pages: the study guide and two practice exams.
The AB-900 outline names these admin centers, identity and security features, Microsoft Purview tools, and Copilot and agent features. Most of its bullets begin with identify or understand; the others use verbs such as explain, interpret, run, compare, assign, create, manage and monitor.
