The Professional Machine Learning Engineer exam page says the exam was updated to reflect the transition from Vertex AI to Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform and updates to Google Cloud's data and analytics stack, and that it "prioritizes Google Cloud native solutions" (exam page). The current exam guide is dated Jun 1, 2026 and has six sections: architecting low-code AI solutions (about 13%), collaborating to manage data and models (about 16%), scaling prototypes into ML models (about 21%), serving and scaling models (about 20%), automating and orchestrating ML pipelines (about 18%) and monitoring AI solutions (about 13%) (exam guide (PDF)). Google announced Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform as the evolution of Vertex AI on Apr 22, 2026 (Google Cloud blog), and the exam page says to refer to the exam guide for the product names used on the exam.
No labs are listed for the Professional Machine Learning Engineer exam: the format is 50-60 multiple choice and multiple select questions in two hours (exam page). The exam guide states that the exam "does not directly assess coding skills" and that a minimum proficiency in Python and SQL is enough to interpret questions with code snippets (exam guide (PDF)).
Google does not publish a passing score for the Professional Machine Learning Engineer exam: results are pass or fail, shown provisionally on screen, and Google says to allow 7-10 days for confirmation (certification FAQ). A Professional certification is valid for two years from the date of issue (certification terms), and the renewal exam window opens 60 days before the inactive date (renewal FAQ).
