The Databricks Certified Generative AI Engineer Associate exam kept its title, its 45 scored questions, its 90 minutes and its fee, but the version published on Mar 18, 2026 has 56 outline objectives against 45 in the guide of Jun 1, 2024 (current exam guide (PDF), June 2024 exam guide (PDF)). The new objectives centre on agents: Agent Bricks, MCP servers, persistent agent memory, MLflow tracing and judges, AI Gateway and CI/CD. Dropped: LangChain chains, metaprompts and the prompt-format objectives.
No: the Generative AI Engineer Associate exam is 45 scored multiple-choice and multiple-selection questions, plus up to 10 unscored items, in 90 minutes with no test aids allowed (exam guide (PDF)). Neither the guide nor the exam page describes a lab environment; the exam page says that all machine learning code within the exam will be in Python and that data manipulation code could be provided in SQL (exam page). Databricks offers no practice exam (certification FAQ). The March 2026 PDF of the guide listed working knowledge of Python and the libraries used for RAG, agent and LLM chain development under recommended preparation (March 2026 exam guide (PDF)); the August 2026 revision drops that list and points instead to the AI Prep Guide and hands-on practice in Databricks Free Edition.
Yes: the current Generative AI Engineer Associate exam guide (revised August 2026, for the exam version of Mar 18, 2026) still says Vector Search, Mosaic AI Vector Search, Genie Spaces and AI Gateway, while the exam page already says AI Search (exam page). Databricks documentation now calls the product Databricks AI Search, "formerly Databricks Vector Search" (AI Search docs), says Genie Agents "were formerly known as Genie Spaces" (Genie Agents API), and labels the endpoint-level AI Gateway legacy, with Unity Gateway generally available (AI Gateway (legacy) docs). Databricks does not say which names its questions use, so know both.
Three PDFs, 109 pages: the study guide and two practice exams.
The current Generative AI Engineer Associate exam guide (revised August 2026, for the exam version of Mar 18, 2026) names these platform pieces across its six sections. It keeps the March 2026 product names; where Databricks has since renamed a product, the current name follows in parentheses.
